Berkshire Springs Bottled Water Quality Report

Your bottled water meets all federal and state health standards. The FDA regulates bottled water as a food product whereas EPA regulates tap water as provided by water utilities. Standards of quality enacted by the FDA for bottled water are equal to or more stringent than the EPA’s standards (known as Maximum Contaminant Levels) for tap water. You can trust the quality, good taste, and safety of Berkshire Springs.

Our Spring Water

Berkshire Springs uses protected spring sources which we bottle directly on-site. Berkshire Springs has, for almost a century, collected spring water from a protected underground aquifer emerging to the surface. The water in this aquifer begins as rain and snow high up in the hills and it remains underground, protected, until it is captured and bottled without human contact. Layers of solid rock and clay provide an impervious (not-passable) protective cover for the aquifer water. This source water is completely natural and collects a standard blend of minerals which leads to its special, light flavor appreciated by so many. We test our source regularly to verify its consistency and high-quality.

How Our Spring Water is Protected

Our spring water is protected by a multi-barrier approach including steps such as source protection and monitoring, and treatment such as micron filtration, ultraviolet light sanitizing, ozonation, and finished product testing.

As a member of the International Bottled Water Association (IBWA), we are subject to a comprehensive annual inspection which further ensures the high quality of our beverage. This organization is a leader in improving the safety and quality of this critical resource.

Since our spring water comes from such a well-protected and monitored source, we can keep our processing of our product to a minimum. We pass our pure natural spring water through a multiple stage filtration system extracting sediment and suspended particles down to 0.5 microns in size. Ozonation and ultraviolet light are used to guarantee sanitization of the water while leaving no residual effect in the water you drink.

All our bottled water products are ozonated. We use ozone instead of chlorine because it leaves no residual and it does not affect human health, taste or odor. Ozone is oxygen (O₃ to be exact) which is bubbled through the water just before it goes into a clean, sanitized bottle. Within a few hours after the bottle has been filled and capped, the ozone naturally reverts to the same form of oxygen that we breathe (O₂).
